Each year, North Shore Animal League hosts a luncheon to present awards to people for their service and dedication. On Oct. 26, the Fifth Annual Lewyt Humane Awards Luncheon honored Steven Garguilo as their first Junior Philanthropy.
Garguilo, an eight-grader at Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale, is the youngest recipient of this honor. He chose to complete his community service project for his Bar Mitzvah. Garguilo organized a successful bowl-a-thon/pizza party at Farmingdale Bowling Lanes. The bowling alley agreed to donate part of the proceeds from the game fees for the evening, but the 13-year-old wanted to do more. So he asked local merchants to donate items to be used as raffle prizes. A good time was had by all and a generous donation was made to North Shore Animal League.
One of his favorite hobbies is taking care of his Golden Retriever, Goldie. He also has a love for music and has been playing piano and saxophone for several years. Hoping to always have animals in his life, Garguilo hopes to become a veterinarian in the future.
