The Nassau County Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) honored local high school scholar-athletes and the new inductees of the Long Island High School Football Hall of Fame at its annual awards brunch ceremony at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Dec. 4, according to Leonard Genova, president of the Nassau and Suffolk County Chapters.
"The Nassau County Chapter of the National Football Foundation has raised thousands of dollars for scholarships and provided the community with positive role models by recognizing outstanding high school seniors in their community," Genova said. "The criteria for the selection of our winners is based upon academics, exemplary school leadership and citizenship, and superior football performance. Since 1996, both the Nassau and Suffolk Chapter collectively have given over $160,000 worth of scholarships and $10,000 to organizations that support youth football."
A special segment of the program was dedicated to paying tribute to the new inductees of the Long Island High School Football Hall of Fame. Honorees from Nassau County included Ron Heller, a 1980 graduate of Farmingdale High School.
