St. Kilian's newly formed fifth - grade boys, basketball team opened its season with an impressive 29-13 win over Our Lady of Mercy-Hicksville. Playing in their first game ever, this untested team received outstanding contributions from the entire squad. Sean Balsam lead the scoring with 12 points, Michael Castagnaro had eight along with at least that many rebounds. Matt Ficarra had four points while Joe DiLauro added three and Devin Gambino had one hoop.

Defensively, Ryan Schwabe, Brian Mazza, Christopher Moore and Jim McQuade all played hard and helped St. Kilian's begin their season on a winning note.
