Patrick Allgier is a teen who is looking to take the coat off your back and donate it to a good cause, the 2005 Coats for Kids Campaign sponsored by the Neighborhood Cleaners Association (NCA), according to Oyster Bay Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone.
"For the second consecutive year, this ambitious young Farmingdale High School student has coordinated a collection for Coats for Kids in his neighborhood as his community service project for the Farmingdale Chapter of the National Honor Society," Councilman Macagnone said.
The Councilman went on to say that this program, which has been in existence since 1986, is designed to collect winter coats for children and adults, which are then cleaned and repaired at no charge by local cleaners, and then distributed to needy kids and adults for the winter. Patrick will be taking the coats he collects to Randi's' Cleaners in Mineola, where Artie Epstein, owner and Long Island Coordinator for Coats for Kids will clean them.
"Patrick exemplifies the best in our young people," Councilman Macagnone said. "In addition to being a member of the Farmingdale Chapter of the National Honor Society, he is a varsity high school swimmer and works as a lifeguard at the Tam O'Shanter Country Club in Old Brookville, the Shelter Rock Tennis & Country Club in Manhasset and at the Farmingdale High School for open swim sessions. Last year, he collected 125 coats and hopes to surpass that number this year. I don't think we hear or read enough about young people like Patrick, who are caring and willing to give of their time and talents to worthy causes such as Coats for Kids, which is why I am telling everyone about this special young man."
Councilman Macagnone also helped facilitate collection bins for Coats for Kids at Town facilities.
