Farmingdale's 7-year-old Hawks capped a phenomenal season with an exciting weekend. The festivities started with a tailgate party at Hofstra University before the Pride took on the University of Massachusetts. During halftime of the college game, the Hawks played in a 12-play exhibition against a team of 7- and 8-year-olds from West Babylon. As usual, the Hawks made their coaches, families and friends proud, keeping their composure and playing to a 6-6 draw in front of thousands of fans on the turf field.
After watching Hofstra complete their upset victory, the Hawks set out to the Wantagh Inn for their end of year team party. A great time was had by all as a DJ provided dance music and games for the players to enjoy. Thank you to Janet Odabasi for organizing the event.
The coaching staff would like to thank all the parents for their dedication and support, allowing for a family atmosphere that was continuously preached to the players. Their support at all team events and games was greatly appreciated. They would like to mention Janet and Darien Odabasi who, for the second consecutive year, opened their home to the entire team for a Halloween party. Having it on a Friday night allowing the boys to get proper rest the night before a game was the best idea of the 2005 season.
They would also like to send a special thank you to team mother Jill Calderon for her work and dedication. Because Jill handled so much of the administrative work, the coaches were able to concentrate on teaching the children (hard as it is to believe, that's what they are) to be good kids and better ballplayers.
The players had a wonderful year finishing with a 5-3 record and showing so much improvement from when practice started back on Aug. 1. They worked extremely hard, practicing three times weekly preparing for each Sunday's game. The coaches are very proud of Patrick Albert, Michael Barrette, Brandon Bustamante, Vincent Calderon, Dylan Charlston, Sean Conors, Anthony Danetra, Steven Dentato, Vincent Fisher, Dylan Fitzgerald, Andres Gomez, TJ Greco, Chris Kelch, Matt Kleinhans, Kyle Mastrelli, Myles Mills, Conor Nelson, Ryan Odabasi, Keyshawn Petit, Matt "Bulldog" Santangelo, Bobby Schmidgall and Devin Selitti for their dedication and progress.
They look forward to growing their Hawk football family in 2006 and continuing to build on the strong foundation that the players, coaches and families have worked so hard to develop.
