Super Sunday lived up to its billing last weekend at Woodward Parkway Field as Farmingdale's PAL Flag Football League wrapped up its second season in spectacular fashion. Applebee's supplied the food, PAL brought the trophies and the players came with their spirit, enthusiasm and love of the game.

Sgt. Kenah and Police Officer Maureen Roach thank Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rose Walker for her support of the PAL programs and the use of their Show Mobile for Super Sunday.

Congratulations to the 410 boys and girls who took the field every Sunday. Special congratulations to the teams who went all the way: Peewee Raiders, JV Falcons, Varsity Vikings and Lady Jets. Here are the final week's highlights.

After a frustrating season, and being only one loss away from elimination, the Lady Vikings came to Super Bowl Sunday with drive and determination. The path, however, was not an easy one.

Game 1: The Lady Vikings faced the Lady Giants, a team that dominated the Lady Vikings during the regular season. On the first drive of the game, on a double reverse, Sabatina Mauro, broke away and ran the ball for a 1st down (and then some) and put the Lady Vikings within striking distance. On the very next play Cara Lynn Kelly, ran the ball in for a touchdown. On the next drive of the game, the speedy Jen Sweeney ran the ball in for a touchdown putting the Lady Vikings up by two touchdowns. This game, however, was far from over. The Lady Giants defense virtually shut down the Lady Vikings offense until late in the second half. In the meantime, the Lady Giants offense scored 2 touchdowns to tie the game at 12 points each. With less then 2 minutes remaining in the game Karlee Dessel took a hand-off, showed some fancy foot-work and ran (okay danced) the entire length of the field, only to have her flag pulled just before the goal line. A temporary setback, which was quickly remedied when Jen Sweeney ran the ball in for a touchdown. Karlee then followed up with a two-point conversion, making the score 20-12. The clock ran out and the Lady Vikings were advancing to the next level of the tournament. Awesome defense was played by Gina Cristallo, Jessice Pickett, Jen, Cara, Melissa Kelly and Karlee. Strong offensive pressure and support provided by all with big receptions from Danielle Curry and Emily McCann.

Game 2: After a quick break, the Lady Vikings were right back out on the field. This time facing the Lady Browns. The Lady Vikings were quick to score, however, the Lady Browns answered right back, scoring a touchdown of their own. Both teams played exceptionally well and were evenly matched. The Lady Vikings scored 2 more touchdowns, but were denied the extra point each time. The Lady Browns scored another touchdown and completed 2-point conversion. With the Lady Vikings up 18-14 and with under a minute remaining in the game, the Lady Browns had possession of the ball. This was reminiscent of the last time the Lady Vikings played the Lady Browns. In that game, the Lady Browns scored a touchdown with under a minute remaining, to squeak out a win over the Lady Vikings. This time, Cara Lynn Kelly, was able to deny the Browns by intercepting a pass to give possession back to the Lady Vikings. With only seconds remaining, Emily McCann missed running for a touchdown by only inches. During this game, Gina and Jessica were absolutely devastating on defense. (Flags were flying everywhere.)

Game 3: "The Superbowl". With no break, the Lady Vikings now had to face the rested Lady Jets. The Lady Vikings were able to strike first, however, the Lady Jets answered right back. The Lady Vikings played a solid game; however, they were overcome by the powerful passing arm of the Lady Jets Quarterback, who threw 2 exceptionally long passes for touchdowns. The Lady Jets outscored the Lady Vikings 4 touchdowns to 2. The Lady Vikings never gave up and played their hearts out until the end. Jen, showed a lot of heart and wanted to keep playing, even though she hurt her knee. Tremendous defense and offense was played by all. The Lady Vikings did not win the Superbowl; however, they were able to walk off the field holding their heads up high.

The Lady Vikings coaches, George and Mike, are exceptionally proud of how well the girls played today and that they never gave up despite a frustrating season. You should be proud of yourselves! Go Vikings!

On Super Sunday, the Peanut Patriots took on the Giants for the most exciting game of the season! The Patriots got the scoring going with a pass from CJ Demers to Justin DiLeonardo who made a great catch as both Justin and a Giants' defender battled for the ball. Justin pulled it away and took off for the touchdown! Later in the game, CJ threw a quick pass to Joseph Hunt who made an excellent move to get around the first defender, and then was off to the races for a touchdown! CJ Demers also scored on a reverse as he was able to turn the corner and run up the sidelines for a long touchdown - we all wish CJ was on our fantasy team this week! Anthony Barbuto scored the final touchdown for the Patriots season on another reverse for a long touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Justin DiLeonardo added another interception to his team leading total! The Patriots' defense closed the game out with a big stop to end the game.

Coaches Chris Demers and Fran DiLeonardo are very proud of the players and wish the season didn't have to end so soon. The 2005 Peanut Patriots are CJ Demers, Justin DiLeonardo, Kevin DiLeonardo, Richie Kevan, Joseph Hunt, Dean Pagano, Liam Hickey and Anthony Barbuto. Thanks to the players, parents and PAL. Flag Football starts in 10 months - we are already counting the days!

The Peanut Raiders were flying high after their team party Saturday. The team celebrated their outstanding season with a bowling party followed by pizza and a trophy presentation ceremony. The team spirit and confidence level was at an all-time high. The camaraderie for the whole team came through this weekend. The Raiders went into the final game of the season squaring off against the Eagles. The Eagles proved to be a tough opponent for the mighty Raiders. The Raiders were throwing into the wind for the first half. The Raiders missed the strong play of Chris the Defender Stauber who was out with family obligations. Dayna the Scooter D'Antonio ran her heart out as always. Trevor the Trevorinator Clark the secret weapon of the Raiders displayed his talents this game as he did all season. Anthony Magic Matola also came up with a big game for the Raiders in a tough battle. Max the Raider Warrior finish the season strong, supplying the Raiders offense and defense with spectacular plays.

The second half of the game is where the Raiders displayed their high powered offense with a strong run from Kevin Crazy Leggs DePalma running the full length of the field for a touchdown. Late in the fourth quarter the Raiders turn to their two touchdown makers commonly referred to as the touchdown twins, Nick Cappellino took the snap from center drop back roll right and threw a bomb down the field to Jim Grassi making a spectacular over the shoulder grab taking it in all the way for the final TD of the game and season.

The Raiders team lived up to their team motto all year, which is to always try your hardest, never give up and believe in yourself. Coach Al Cappellino was quoted after the game as saying a finer bunch of kids he has never seen; it was an honor and a privilege to coach the Raiders' team this year. Coach John Stauber who proved to be a great coach also wishes great success for all the Raiders.

The Peanut Jets saved the best for last! In their very last game of the season, the players showed their fans that they know what the game is all about. The Jets scored more touchdowns and pulled more flags than in any other game they played. All of the players showed their best moves which made for a very exciting game. Christian Capobianco got his first touchdown of the season and the crowd went wild! Coach Tom's huddle handoff was a big success. After the game, the team graciously accepted their hard-earned trophies and were full of smiles as they posed for pictures.

Coach Colleen and Coach Tom would like to thank all of the Peanut Jets for giving their best efforts for 8 weeks. It was a great season working with a team that was eager to learn and grow. Its kids like this that make coaching worthwhile.

The Peanut Chiefs play a great all around game in wrapping up a successful season. Great passing from Conner Costarella, Sean "The Snake" McCann, and Tom Donovan. The Chiefs got TD's from Paul Morante, Jack Nonnenmann and Snake McCann. The defense was led by Will Hroch, Anthony Morante, and Tim Dolan. The coaches are very proud of all the Chief players.

The Raiders completed an amazing turnaround to capture the Pee Wee Division Super Bowl Championship. After finishing the regular season with only one win and a tie, the team ran the table and won all 5 of their playoff games including the championship game against a tough Browns team. All season long, the Raiders worked hard to improve their defense, and were led in the playoffs by the flag pulling of Chris Moloney and the pass rushing skills of Kyle Simone. On offense, the Raiders looked to spread the ball around and touchdowns where scored during the playoffs by Tim Acton, Kevin Gallagher, Sam Cherkes, Sam Chernakoff, Scott Hilbrandt, Matthew Hurwitz and Jon Paul Weiss. Coaches Gene Gallagher and Kevin Moloney were proud of how their team never lost faith in themselves and their teammates and always came to play. Congratulations Raiders, your hard work paid off!

The JV season finished with an outstanding championship game between two top teams, the Falcons and the Jets. The Falcons played just like they have all year. The team was a perfect 7-0 for the season, and with only one loss in the playoffs. Mike Neglia led the team at quarterback and powerd the offense consisting of Chris Roth, Paul Ashford, Dustin Mucchio Schrimpe, Jake Dickinson and Anthony McKnight. The defense also had a great day stopping the Jets right in their tracks with great plays from Joe Morante, Bobby McKnight, Chris Romano and Nick Quijano. Coaches Joe Morante and Bob McKnight are proud of the boys and congratulate them on their big win.

The JV Jets also congratulate the Falcons. The Jets fell short in the final game, but had an outstanding season, including a hard fought win over the Raiders in the semi-finals. Every boy contributed to the success of the team and every boy played better as the season progressed. Congratulations to Michael Castagnaro, Fred Kezer, Vincent Mavaro, Brian Mazza, Matthew Santamaria, Evan Saur, Dominck Cotrone, Nick Ditranto and Mike Nicosia.

The Jets lost in the Super Bowl to a very tough Vikings team. The boys should be proud of their effort not just for the efforts in the game but for a season of competitiveness, hard work and above all for displaying good sportsmanship all year long. The Jets coaches thank them and appreciate their efforts. Well done!
