After six weeks of action, Farmingdale's PAL Flag Football League is quickly approaching the playoffs and Super Sunday. Just about every team is jockeying for position, all hoping their best flag football lies ahead. While the Lady Giants defeated the Lady Vikings by a score of 35 to 6, the game felt much closer than the score suggests. The Lady Vikings played their hearts out and never gave up. The speedy Jen Sweeney ran for a touchdown. Melissa Kelly, Cara Kelly, Gina Cristallo, Tina Mauro and Karlee Dessel all kept pressure on the Giants offense with some terrific flag pulls. Danielle Curry and Emily McCann played both solid offense and defense. The Vikings anxiously anticipate return of the "Interceptor" Jessica Pickett next week.

Despite the wind and cold, the Steelers still had a great game on Sunday. The first touchdown of the game was made by Devin Miller. Kyle Tucker had many nice runs and played a good defensive game. Kevin Mumolo improves with each week; this game he was a force on the defense. Thomas Weber made a beautiful run for 40 yards and proved hard to catch scoring 2 TD's. The other play was a pass by Daniel Dougherty which Thomas showed great concentration and caught it while being pressured by two Packers and ran it in for a touchdown. Daniel Dougherty not only made that pass but he made many others which helped advance the team down the field. He also played a very strong defensive game. Robert Mullane made a nice play running for 10 yards. Kevin Costanza ran up the side line and was unstoppable as he scored a nice touchdown. Not to mention, he plays a very strong defensive game. Michael Theim had another nice game this week running 10 yards.

A shorthanded and cold, Eagles squad took on a tough and talented Giants team this week. Lucas Sowers and Jake Hueskin provided the offense punch for the Eagles with a TD run each. Tyler Moloney, Sean Moloney, Brendan Gallagher and Alex Caristia also made some fine plays on offense. On the defensive side of the ball, "Big" Jake Hueskin was a one man wrecking crew, grabbing flags all over the field to slow down the powerful Giants' offense. The Eagles are looking forward to having all the boys back for next weeks game and hoping for warmer temperatures.

Peanut Raiders and Vikings squared off against the elements of the cold and wind. It was a hard fought game from start to finish with both defenses up for the task. Chris Stauber was a one man wrecking machine on defense for the Raiders, stopping several Vikings drives. The Raiders got a big boost this week with the return of Max Cohen after being on the DL for three weeks. Max came in and played like he never missed a game. Dana "The Scooter" D'Antonio as always gave it her all and Kevin "Crazy Leg" DePalma was slowed down on the muddy track. Late in the third quarter, the Raiders used the old double reverse, this time displaying the power running of Cappellino. Cappellino broke lose for a badly need long game. Jim Grassi had the only two Raider touchdowns of the day. In the fourth quarter, the Raiders called upon their secret weapon, the always reliable Trevor Clark. Clark took the hand off, cutting and slashing through the Vikings' defense for one of the longer runs of the day. Both teams displayed great courage and the coaching staff of the Raiders, as always is very proud of all of their players efforts.

The Peanut Jets played an exciting game versus the Peanut Browns. On the first Sunday of "real" football weather, the Jets' fans kept warm by cheering their team on. Christian Capobianco made many long running plays, gaining yards for his team. Brandon McGlynn did an awesome job playing center and showed everyone his defensive moves while running to grab flags. For the second week in a row, Matthew Muccio-Schrimpe ran like the wind for a touchdown in the final seconds of the game. Once again, the Peanut Jets wowed their friends and family by treating them to a great show of teamwork!

The Browns and Jets brought their high powered offenses to the field this Sunday. Scoring for the Browns on their first possession was Tyler Timmons with an outstanding 70 yd run. Also scoring on long runs were Nick Pantorno, Ryan Fenn and Gregory Slator. Outstanding defense was played by Nick Sassi , Conor Reid and Chris Fenn. These guys played a great game on a cold day.

In the Pee Wee division, the Jets and Giants game literally came down to the last second. The Jets had the ball on the Giants 2 yard line with one second left on the clock. The Giants stopped the Jets on this last play and won the game 21-14. The Jets' Patrick Quinn scored a great running TD and Greg Maghjakian played terrific defense for the Jets as well.

The Pee Wee Vikings won for only the second time this season in a tightly contested game against the Raiders. The Vikings scored quickly on their opening possession on a pass from Tom Celenza to Matt D'Antonio who went the length of the field. John Cozzolino took it in for the two point conversion to make it 8-0. The Raiders then scored to bring the score to 8-6. The Vikings later scored on a pass from Matt D'Antonio to Kyle Hacker and a completed two point conversion to Tom Celenza to make it 16-6.

The Vikings' offense went cold in the second half with the Raiders' stingy defense holding them to a shut out. The Raiders scored another touchdown and two point conversions to bring it within 16-14. The Vikings " Nobend but don't break" defense held on for the win. Congratulations to the Vikings, who only had five players for the game, Tom Celenza, Matt D'Antonio, John Cozzolino, Kyle Hacker and Peter Cestare for grinding it out on their second win.

The Giants defeated the Eagles by a score of 52 to 32. The Eagles kept the game close and were in the game until the very end. Thanks in part to solid first half defense provided by Jordan Merchan, Matthew "The Fridge" Lubliner and Andrew Phillips. Andrew Phillips and Angelo Mauro each ran for touchdowns. Angelo also ran the ball in for a two-point conversion. Tim Manolt connected with Matt Weir who ran for a touchdown. Matt returned the favor connecting with Tim who ran for another touchdown. Jordan also connected with Tim who ran for yet another touchdown. Joey DePalma used his speed to wreak havoc and keep the pressure on the Giants' defense and offense. Key flag pulls by Anthony Galanoudis, Jordan, the Fridge, Matt Weir, Joe Salonia, Andrew and Tim. Tim made a big interception, at the one-yard line with 15 seconds left to the game. On the final play of the game, Matt connected Tyler Sullivan for a big gain. Unfortunately, the clock ran. Great effort Eagles. Your coaches are proud of your tremendous focus and determination.

The Eagles struck on their first possession and made the extra point for a 7 - 0 lead. The Giants then struck with a short pass from Joe Valente to PJ Spadelik who took the ball in for the score. The Giants converted on the extra point with a pass from Joe to Justin DiCicco (one of his three Extra Point receptions for the day). Giants got the ball back; they struck again this time it was PJ to Joe for the score.

The Eagles fought right back with a short pass to Tim Manolt who took the ball the rest of the way for six. The score now 14 - 14. On Giants the next possession, Mike Waldman ran from the five to midfield on the first play. Next it was the Joe to PJ connection for another Giants score. On the Giants' next possession, with the score 30-20, PJ again ran the ball from the five, the length of the field for the score.

The next time the Giants touched the ball PJ Hit Tom Dwyer at midfield and Tom took it the rest of the way for the score. On the next Eagles' possession, Frank Zazzerino made a TD saving flag pull. Tom Dwyer for the Giants took the ball the length of the field for a score. On the Giants' final possession PJ took a handoff from Joe V who snuck out on the right side and PJ then hit Joe all alone and Joe V took it home for the score. The Giants' defense was led by Will Rogers and pass rusher John Mckeon. Final score was Giants 51 Eagles 32, as the Giants move into the last week of the regular season with a record of 5 - 1.

After giving up seven touchdowns last week to the Colts, the Packers' defense regrouped this Sunday, holding the Browns to a single touchdown while picking up three safeties in a 30 - 6 victory. The Packers are now 3-3 for the year.

Field position was the name of this game, with the Packers' defense intercepting three first half passes and one of their three safeties on the day. Robert Bianco and Anthony Bonilla lead the defense in the first half, shutting down the Browns' ground game, while Rob Tempesta provided pressure on pass rushing. The first half ended with the Packers leading 16 - 0, a lead they would not relinquish.

James Pich provided the majority of snaps in the second half to three Packers' quarterbacks. Kyle Garry, Sean Balsam and William Hassett coordinated the Packers' second half offense adding two additional touchdowns, including key receptions to Ray Webb, Eddie Fronckwicz and Sean Balsam.

Late in the second half, Eddie Fronckwicz's pass block at the line of scrimmage stopped the Browns' final offensive drive, exemplifying the Packers' defense throughout the day, a block that was clearly heard across the field.

The JV Jets played a solid all around game beating the Patriots. Mike Nicosia was the player of the game for the Jets. Mike scored two touchdowns and had two interceptions. Vincent Mavaro ran for a long TD and Nick Ditaranto made a beautiful juggling catch in the end zone for a two-point conversion. Evan Saur had several impressive catch and runs for the Jets to contribute to their victory.

The Jets played a defensive dominated game against the Browns. Both offenses struggled to make plays and both teams made big plays at the end. Steve Kayola played a strong game at QB and John Santamaria had two catch and long runs for scores. The Jets were missing some key players but everyone stepped up defensively led by Alex Brosnan, Sal Strano,Bill Specht and Perry DiMarco, Thomas Pich with two sacks a forced two offensive penalties. A great effort by everyone. Final score Jets 13 Browns 13.
