The Flags were flying once again Sunday at Woodward Parkway Field during week 2 of Farmingdale's PAL Flag Football League. Many of the boys and girls who played their first game ever last week really looked comfortable out there running routes, chasing flags and having fun. Here are some highlights.

The Lady Jets beat Lady Giants 14-6 in a game that was a defensive battle from the start. Both teams put great pressure on the quarterback and batted down pass after pass. Christina Lopilato had two more touchdowns with help from Utility Back Maggie Flemming, while newcomer Justine Fernandez picked up a 2-point conversion.

On defense, the Jets were masterful. Great rushing from Megan Draghi, Jules Mullane and Sarah Hecht made it difficult for the Giants to put points on the board. The impressive secondary coverage led by Andrea Lopilato, and Maddie Reilly capped off this defensive gem making the Jets the only 2-0 team in the girls' division.

The Lady Vikings won their first game, defeating the Lady Browns 44-20 in what was a very exciting, well-played game by both teams. This was a team effort, in which every Lady Viking (Cara, Danielle, Gina, Jessica, Jen, Karlee, Melissa and Sabatina) scored either a touchdown or an extra point. Emily came down to support the Vikings and will be back on the field next week.

The grasshopper Jets scored four touchdowns in their second game of the season. Jack Leghart caught a touchdown pass thrown by quarterback Thomas Cestare and he ran for another score. Danny Miller and Braden Weill also ran for touchdowns. The defense was anchored by Mike McKenna and twins Ben and Jack Petrocelli.

Another great game for the Steelers and the Chiefs. The Steelers started off with a huge run made by KyleTucker gaining 30 yards for the first touchdown of the game.

Daniel Dougherty also had an exceptional game making many great plays at quarterback. Michael Theim and Thomas Weber were valuable on both the offense and defense. Robert Mullane made a nice run to advance us down the field. Kevin Costanza was then able to finish off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown. Kevin Mumolo is again proving this season that he is strong on the defense. The game ended with a nice play by Devin Miller sacking the quarterback. Great game boys.

For the Chiefs, their tough defense was led by Tim Dolan and Jack Nonnenmann. Tom Donovan had a good day throwing the ball and Sean McCann had a big TD run.

The Eagles turned in another great team effort against a tough bunch of Vikings this week. Leading the offense with long TD runs were Jake Hueskin, Tyler Moloney and Sean Sookraj. The Eagles showed great skills on defense as well, led by Alex Caristia, Connor Doran, Brendan Gallagher, Sean Moloney, Lucas Sowers and Max Sturm, all of whom came up with big plays to slow down the Viking offense. The boys are really coming together as a team and having a great time.

The Peanut Jets and Giants squared off Sunday with both teams showing great effort and determination. For the Jets, Keegan McDonald had a beautiful touchdown run. Christian Capobianco is getting better and better with every play, nice job Jets and Giants.

On week 1, there was a rematch of the real life NFL Super Bowl when the Peanut Division Patriots took on the Peanut Eagles - and the two teams did not disappoint.

After the Eagles scored on the initial drive of the day, the Patriots answered back for the team's first touchdown of the season with a nice pass from CJ Demers to Justin DiLeonardo who ran the length of the field for the score. CJ also added a touchdown of his own later in the game on a running play and the scoring did not end there. Anthony Barbuto and Dean Pagano both scored their first flag football touchdowns for the year. While the Eagles did their share of scoring, Kevin DiLeonardo, who added a touchdown himself, showed great pursuit on defense crossing the field on one play and making a touchdown-stopping pull of the flag.

It was a great start of the season for the Peanut Patriots.

The Giants defeated the Browns in an exciting 31-22 game. The Giants led off the scoring with a touchdown and missed conversion. The Browns struck back on a TD pass from Zack Yashnyk to Matt DiCarlo, with a 2-point conversion from Zack to Matt. The Giants followed with three unanswered touchdowns, and an extra point to make it 25-8. Following a strong drive, the Browns scored on a pass from Brett Davies to Connor McDonald, followed by a 2-point conversion run by Matt DiCarlo. Matt scored the final touchdown run making to cap a well played game.

The Eagles won their first game, defeating the Packers 32-20. The Eagles displayed teamwork and perseverance, as they worked together to defeat a very tough Packers team. Special mention goes to Jordan Merchan, whose interception, multiple flag pulls, receptions, touchdown and passes helped spark the Eagles defense and offense.

For the Packers' Anthony Bonilla and Sean Balsam were assigned the difficult task of defending Tim Manolt and Joe Depalma, while James Pich supplied much needed defensive pressure. The first half ended with the Eagles ahead of the Packers by the slim margin of 14-12. The Packers two first half touchdowns were both passing plays, with William Hassett completing a long pass pattern to Kyle Garry. The Packer's second TD was set up by Robert Bianco's first down, to be completed by Kyle Garry's touchdown strike to Eddie Fronckwicz.

The Eagles held the Packers to a single second half TD, when Sean Sullivan gained a first down followed by Eddie Fronckwicz completing the Packer's third and final TD of the day on a pass to Raymond Webb. The game was within reach, late in the game, but the Eagles put it away with less then a minute remaining with their fifth and final TD of the day, giving the Eagles a well deserved 32-20 victory.

For the second week in a row the JV Giants prevailed in a shoot out. This time over the Browns winning 31-22. The Giants started the game with a Joe Valente pass to PJ Spadalik over the middle which PJ took down the sideline for the score. The Browns answered with a run of the entire length of the field on the very next play. The Giants returned fire on the next possession with PJ Spadalik again on a run over the right side. QB Joe Valente connected on two more scores to both Justin DiCicco and Mike Waldman in the second half. The Giants defense was led by Frank Zazzarino, Declan Hickey, Will Rogers, Liam Walsh, Tom Dwyer and John McKeon who applied pressure all day to the Browns QB's and receivers.

The JV Jets beat the Chiefs thanks to outstanding play from all the boys. For the second week in a row, Evan Saur played well and scored another TD. Mike Nicosia was also outstanding in his flag debut at quarterback and on defense. Fed Kezer was a force on defense and turned in a nice run as well.

The JV Falcons played another impressive game Sunday, beating the Patriots. The defense was led by Nicholas Quijano, who grabbed numerous flags and played with a lot of enthusiasm. Chris Romano and Jake Dickinson both led scoring drives in their quarterback debuts. The Falcons and everyone in the league send their best to Paul Ashford while he recovers from an arm injury. Get better soon, Paul - they need you.

The Jets got their first win of the season jumping out to a big lead against the Giants. Steven Harris had a big game with 3 touchdowns. Also contributing to the offense were Joe Brosnan, John Santamaria and Alex Brosnan. The defense came up with some big plays when they needed them, again lead by Billy Specht and Thomas Pich rushing the QB. Steven Jones and Sal Strano played excellent all-around defense contributing to a total team effort. Final score Jets 33- Giants 26.
