The Oct. 7 - 10 Columbus Day festivities enjoyed by so many residents will shortly be here. Let us hope and trust that those bearing responsibility for selecting the parade's grand marshal use better judgment than those who selected and approved the 2005 Memorial Day grand marshal. That grand marshal was someone who pleaded guilty in the Nassau County Court House to grand larceny in relation to Incorporated Village of Farmingdale funds when he served as mayor.

As a taxpayer, I do not appreciate having such a serious violation ignored, more especially on a day when we honor those who gave their lives for our country.

Let us hope the person selected for this parade will serve as a fine example to our young people.
