Week two of OTH Year End Tournament had a couple of surprises, the biggest being top seed Synergy falling to Moby Drugs. The win gave seventh seed Moby a commanding 2-0 record in their bracket with complete control of their destiny. The other upset came from the same bracket as twelfth seed Bar Boy thumped sixth seed Granny O'Sheas. Granny's had put together a year end surge that appeared to give them momentum going into the tourney but certainly hasn't materialized as they fell to 0-2 while Bar Boy improved to 1-1. The bracket winner will come down to Bar Boy's game with bracket leader Moby on Tuesday.

In bracket 2, Changing Times improved their record to 2-0 with a big win over M&T. This sets up their showdown with second seed Barco, also 2-0, to determine who moves on to the semi-finals. Barco had a come from behind victory over Built-More-Builders 19-7. BMB jumped out to a six-run lead before Barco came to bat. Barco got two back in their half on Dave Ringer's two-run double, and except for the second inning Barco scored in every other inning to pull out their victory. The key play of the game came in the third as BMB had Barco on the ropes, had one run with the bases loaded, when Bill White turned a third to home DP to kill the rally. After that, Barco tied the score in the bottom half on RBI hits by Terry McPartland, Kevin Moloney (two RBIs) and Bill White. The final run came in on Dave Saur's sac fly. From there it was all Barco both offensively and defensively. Barco's infield turned four other DPs keeping BMB from mounting any rallies while getting key hits from Rick Pedone (3-4, two RBIs), Kevin Moloney (4-5 HR, five RBIs), Dave Ringer (4-5, two RBIs), Bill White (3-5) and Phil Tripoli (two hits, RBI). Adding to Barco's defense were sparkling catches by outfielders Dave Ringer and Dave Saur, and first baseman Phil Tripoli's catch of a screaming liner.

In bracket 3 there were no surprises as both Hampton Air East and Mers improved to 2-0 heading into their show down. It was a greatly pitched and defensively played game by Hampton Air, as pitcher Tom Giorelli did not give up a hit until the third inning and a run until the fifth staying ahead of the Singleton hitters all night. Air continued their impressive hitting as they again scored more than 20 runs for the sixth straight game. Jerry Sutherland, Chris Keep, Butch Flecker all had four hits while Joe Auer and Ron Schwabe provided the power. Not only has Hampton been hitting, scoring 130 runs in the last five games, they also have been stingy as they have given up less than 40 during the same span. Mers Ale House got to within one game of returning to the semifinals with an overwhelming win against Bethpage Physical Therapy 25-14. Big Kevin Brosnan hit for the cycle leading the Mersmen 35 hit night assault going 4-4 with a huge eight RBIs. George Cohan was also smoking at the plate going 5-5 with two RBIs while Byron Bodine, with 1 RBI, and Joe Fanning, with two RBIs went 4-5. Tom Vella was 2-3 with 2 RBIs while Tom Fitzpatrick, Ed Healy, and Bill Sutherland all were 3-5. The team felt they did not play up to par defensively, but look for their golden gloves to return this week. The entire team hopes Big Ed Healy will share the case of beer he had to get for giving Big Bob Schelhorn his infield hit with Healy's amazing very high, and painfully slow, looping throw to first off of a very routine charity hop to allow an even amazed Bob S to reach safely.
