As a living historian portraying General Douglas MacArthur directed Asian living historians portraying representatives of Imperial Japan to sign surrender documents, the end of World War II was observed 60 years to the day on Friday, Sept. 2 at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, as vintage B-17's, B-24's and period fighters take to the air.

Senator Fuschillo and Commander Robert Tom Riordan viewed the vintage B-24 Liberator bomber that flew a celebratory flight to commemorate the victorious American efforts during World War II.

"The successful conclusion of World War II should be remembered as a time that allowed us to celebrate one of the greatest victories in our history. It also allows us to remember the courage, the valor and the spirit of those who assembled here today and to thank them for all they have given us," stated Senator Fuschillo. "To have the opportunity to have Commander Riordan participate and receive the accolades that all our veterans so greatly deserve makes the day even more special."

Following the ceremony, couples on the flight line were entertained by USO troupe and invited to recreate the legendary Times Square Kiss that celebrated the end of hostilities. The museum also hosted vintage aircraft flight experiences and period exhibits throughout the Labor Day weekend.
