A former Nassau County employee was arrested last week for allegedly defrauding the taxpayers by at least $12,000. Legislative minority leader Peter Schmitt believes there may be another instance of wrongdoing and called on County Executive Tom Suozzi to place one of his top deputies on a leave of absence. A few months ago, Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine announced plans for the Main Street Mile, a road race that will be held in Farmingdale on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Companions in Courage Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by LaFontaine, will be the primary beneficiary of this event.
