It looks like Granny O'Sheas is finally stringing together fine defense play and a strong offense over the course of the last three games, playing more like they expected to. This past Friday's matchup versus Singletons was a battle between the two teams that were tied for fourth place heading into this contest. Grannys and Singletons each struck for three runs a piece to start off the night but the game started to turn in Grannys favor in the fourth. Grannys took advantage of a few walks to set the table for SAC flys by Mike Hadnagy and Bill Manny along with RBI singles by Bob Myers and Jay Donovan, making the score 11-5. Bob Thompson then added a two-run homerun, to deep right center to up Grannys lead to 13-5. Good thing too, since Singletons scored seven runs in the lucky seventh inning to close the score to 13-12. A nice defensive relay by Mickey Newbeck, Mike Hadnagy and Bill Manny gunned down a runner at home which helped cut short a Singletons rally that helped Grannys edge out Singletons 16-12. Thanks go to Bob Myers for a nice relief pitching effort and Bob Thompson for a 3-4 evening with five RBIs. With three games to go, Grannys hopes to keep coming on strong for the end of year tournament. Barco continued their winning ways as they overcame the ever-tough Mers team 17-11 to improve their record to 12-1. Barco got out of the gate quickly scoring three in the first but Mers bounced right back with six in their half to take the early lead. Barco got one back in the second on Dave Saur's homerun, then posted four in the third and five in the fifth to take a 13-6 lead. Mers finally got back on the scoreboard with two in the seventh but Barco came right back with four in the eighth with the big hit being Dennis Ryan's three-run homerun (one of his three hits on the night). This week was Bill White's turn to have a RBI hit four in each at-bat while Terry McPartland (2-3 sac fly) added three RBIs. Setting the table for the big guns were Gary Jambor (4-4) and Steve Jacobson (3-4) as they scored three times each. Having their usual clutch games were Kevin Moloney (3-4, two RBIs) and Dave Ringer (2-3 sac fly two RBIs). Bullet Bob Diamond had a good game as well, going 2-3 w/ a BB. It was great to see Barco's Steve Schwind at the game and would like to wish him a full and speedy from his recent back surgery. Synergy whipped Bar Boy in the early game, setting up next week's battle for first against Barco as each team stands at 12-1. No highlights and/or results were received for the Hampton Air/M&T, Bethpage PT/Moby, and Built-More-Builders/ Changing Times contests.
The Rain-Out games have been rescheduled. The May 6 week will be played on Aug. 19 and the July 8 week will be played on Aug. 26. Time and field assignments will be the same as originally scheduled.
