Farmingdale Baseball Holds Pops Park Classic

Farmingdale Baseball held their Fifth Annual Pops Park Classic over the Fourth of July Weekend. In July 2001 the Town of Oyster Bay Park on Merritts Road (next to Bar Boy Restaurant Supply) was renamed to honor James "Pop" Sabellico, a lifetime Farmingdale resident who dedicated his life to baseball. Each year since, the AA league (8-year-olds) play a three game all-star game series. It culminates on the third day with presentations of the all-star trophies and food and drinks supplied by the Sabellico family.

"This is a special day each year for me and my family", stated Pop Sabellico's son, Tom. "Every year I can see my father in the eyes of each 8-year-old playing here, It's an honor to continue this wonderful tradition."

The Sabellico family dedication to the community has continued with Tom, who is currently the President of Farmingdale Baseball and the Farmingdale Community Summit Council.
