After a two-week lay off, one for the 4th and one for Mother Nature, the league got back to business as the schedule provided another week of intra-division play. Leading off the night was M&T edging out Singleton's 12-8. Once again Mark Lubowsky pitched a great game for M&T who received offensive support from Vince Cardulo who went five-for-five with a homerun. Ending a Singletons rally was OF John Cardile's diving catch that saved the day for M&T. Rich McClorey and Frank Tiscione also made key defensive plays on the night for M&T. The other early game had Built-More Builders, behind backup pitcher Brian Tinney (now 2-0), beating Bar-Boy 18-3. Brian was in control all-night and even had a shutout going into the ninth inning. Brian also had four hits, but despite all that, Tom Dittmeier was the BMB's MVP for the night as he arrived precisely at game time giving BMB enough guys to play. Jerry Mazza led off the game with a home run and Pete Mendelson added a RBI single in the first to give BMB the early lead but after that the bats went quiet until the sixth. Tom Dittmeier started the big seven-run sixth with a single with hits following from Pete Mendelson, Joe Algerio, Brian Tinney, Jerry Mazza and Beno Reverberi. Defensively, Tom "T" Ball did a fantastic job filling in at first base, as did Bill Hartenstine at second base. Special mention also goes to Joe Cipolla who arrived just in time for a few post game refreshments. The middle game on the 60' had Moby Drugs winning over Granny O'Sheas. O'Sheas was looking to get back into the swing of things after the long break but it appears it did nothing to help rejuvenate their sleeping bats. Moby jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first but O'Sheas fought back in the second on Bill Manny and Mike Hadnagy doubles, Gary Innes single, Mitch Maghakian's FC, and Al Celeste's RBI single. Now being down 4-3, Moby struck back with two in the third and fourth to go up 7-4. O'Sheas Responded with two of their own in the sixth on hot hitting Robbie Kirk's RBI single and Bob Thompson's sac fly but unfortunately that would be all for O'Sheas in the run department for the evening as Moby went on to a 11-6 victory. Thanks go out to Walter Hasemann who played a great left field all night, and kept the Moby runners from advancing on the base paths. Here's hoping the O'Shea bats wake up for next week's game against high scoring Synergy team. And finally, welcome to new Moby player Scott Entwistle, good luck and have fun playing in the OTHG. Meanwhile on the 90', Barco continued their winning ways over a tough Hampton Air East team to stay on Synergy's coat tails. Barco jumped out early with seven in the first and eventually made it a commanding 10-0 lead after four before Hampton was able to get on the scoreboard. Hampton air made it close but Barco shut them down the last two innings to secure their 15-7 win. Coming up with homeruns and three RBI nights each for Barco were Kevin Moloney, Dennis Ryan and Dave Ringer who also received offense help from Gary Jambor and Bill Stack, who were three-for-four on the night. A special note goes out to Barco's Dave Saur who filled in admirably at short instead of his usual OF spot. The late game had Synergy remaining unbeaten by defeating a very stubborn reborn Changing Times team 24-16. Starting pitcher Bobby Joyce struggled in the opening innings and gave way to Richie Dargie, who came in and shut down CT's offense enough for Synergy to get ahead in the fourth inning. Mr. Steady Joe Lutz, rookie Benny Macchia, and Bob Cruickshank each had four hits while Aldo Balducci (no, he's not Irish), Big Mike Mormino, Denny Oehl, and Richie Dargie added three. Benny Macchia had a homer, and Rob Huebner and Dave Rubino had key hits when Synergy really needed them. Defensively Billy Fitzpatrick and Bob Joyce played solid on the left side keeping CT at bay. On the 60 Bethpage PT suffered another tough loss as they dropped a 25-14 decision to Mers. How could 25-14 be a "tough loss"? Simple, it was a close back and forth game until Mers broke it wide open with an eight-run eighth inning. In fact at one point Bethpage led 12-7 before Mers came back for the win. Bethpage scored right out of the gate with three in the first on RBI hits by Mike Muscara and Rick Bugeia but Mers bounced back with a pair in the first and three more in the second to open a 5-3 lead. Two in the fourth by Bethpage on hits by Mike Kochen and Mike Muscara and a big two hit out by Doug "Double D" Dervin knotted the score at five, but once again Mers forged ahead with a pair of their own to retake the lead at 7-5. Bethpage's big moment came in the fifth when they erupted for seven runs. Jimmy Nolan and Mike Colecchia had RBI singles, Mike Anzalone's sac fly scored another, but with two out Bethpage mastered the art of clutch hitting, getting four more runs on hits by Kochen, Muscara and Frank Horoszewski to open up a 12-7 lead but it turned out to be the last hurrah for Bethpage as Mers started pounding the ball, with three in the fifth and six more in the sixth to make it 16-12. The teams traded runs in the seventh then Mers broke open the close fought game with their big eight-run eighth inning. Bethpage had a meek rally in the ninth when with two-out, consecutive hits by Concessi, Asta and Aimetti manufactured a run.
