OTH resumed their schedule after last week's washout, the only good thing about the weather this week was it didn't rain. Please tell me when spring is going to arrive, at least on a Friday night.

The opening game on the 60' had Hampton Air knocking off the previously unbeaten Built More Builders giving both teams a 2-1 record. There weren't many highlights for BMB in their loss, although one bright spot was Joe Algerio's 3-run homer. Adding to the list were Tom Dittmeier's and Jerry Mazza's 3-hit game, while Rich D'Amico, Beno Reverberi and Dan Arenholz chipped in with 2-hits each. It has been an unusual early season for BMB, never before has the team played three consecutive games without team leader Tom "T" Ball. The team looks forward to his season debut and we congratulate him on his son's College graduation. The second game had the resurgent Changing Times team improving their record to 2-1 with their 28-19 victory over a struggling Moby team, which fell to 0-3. The late game for the National Division had another improved team, Bethpage PT beating up on M&T. With a fierce offensive display, Bethpage PT won going away, as they topped M&T 28-18 (no it was not a football game!). The scoring started fast with M&T stringing together 5 hits in the first for a quick 5-0 lead. But it didn't last long as Bethpage PT answered in their half of the first. After John Cernuto's lead off HR, one out hits by Mike Muscara and Mike Kochen put two runners on. Rookie Chris Tuttle then brought the crowd to its feet with a monstrous 3-run homer over the centerfield fence to make it 5-4, and set the high scoring tone of the game. From there the game resembled a heavyweight bout, with one team scoring runs only to be followed by the opposition answering with a rally of their own. With M&T leading 9-6 in the 4th, Bethpage erupted with a 6-run inning to take the lead 12-9. Hits by Muscara and Kochen preceded another 3 run Homer by Tuttle (this time inside-the-park); an RBI single by Frank Horoszewski and a sac fly by Rick Bugela followed this. Bethpage had the lead they would never surrender but not without a fight as M&T closed to within one at 12-11 with a 2-spot in the 5th, but once again Bethpage PT answered with 4 of their own to make it 16-11. M&T came right back with 4 of their own to once again make it a one-run game. What did Bethpage do? You guessed it...a triple by Tuttle a walk and 3 hits, the last an RBI single from Doug Dervin brought the lead back up to 5. M&T scored a single run in the 7th, but Bethpage iced it with a huge 8-run 7th, the big hits being Jimmy Nolan's booming RBI triple and Mike Colecchia's bases loaded triple. Leading 28-16, M&T scored 2 in the 8th but the late-starting game ended there as midnight fast approached in a darkened Allen Park. The win gave Bethpage a 2-1 record and dropped M&T to 1-2. On the American League side of play, two teams continued to be unbeaten. The hot-hitting Synergy (3-0) team steamrolled over another victim, this time it was O'Sheas (0-3) turn. Barco (3-0), another team with whose line-up is smacking the ball, beat up a flat Singletons (1-2) team 27-1. Leading the charge this week were Gary Jambor (3-3) and Steve Jacobson (4-4, 4 RBIs), setting up Terry McPartland (5 RBIs, HR), Dave Ringer (4-4, 6 RBIs, HR) and Kevin Maloney (4 RBIs, HR). Also coming up big were Dennis Ryan (3-4), Tom Burke (HR, 4 RBIs) and Rick Pedone (2-2, HR). On the "Weebles Wobble" front, Jeff wobbled but didn't fall down but we can't say the same for Dennis, who came close before he took his dive.
