The Farmingdale Baseball League (FBLI) held its traditional Opening Day parade on this past Sunday. Applebee's was honored as this year's Grand Marshal, an honor that is bestowed on a community member/organization who has distinguished themselves as a true friend of the community and Farmingdale Baseball. Applebee's has always been supportive of the leagues efforts to provide the children of Farmingdale with a top-notch baseball program. In addition to sponsoring teams, they provide a BBQ at FBLI's annual baseball day celebration, donating a portion of the proceeds back to the league.

The parade kicksoff the start of the FBLI baseball season. Approximately 1000 boys and girls ages six through 17 participate each year in the program. This year marks the 55th year of Farmingdale Baseball. The FBLI players and coaches were joined by many of our elected officials, apparatus from our four local fire departments (Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, East Farmingdale and North Massapequa) two marching bands and family members from the Farmingdale Applebee's staff. The Nassau County Police Department and Auxiliary Police where on hand to escort and assure a safe parade route for all the marchers. The parade ended at Allen Park where Tom Sabellico, FBLI President, presented Tony Valentino, Farmingdale Applebee's General Manager with his plaque. The traditional balloon launch (signifying the opening of the baseball season) officially started the 2005 season. The league would like to thank Allen Park Manager, Mike Rauff and his crew for once again seeing to every need of their organization and having the park and ballfields looking great. The FBLI Board also wants to thank all the marchers and the parade committee (chaired by Dave Aitchison) for making this year's parade a success.
