A public hearing will be held on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall of Oyster Bay where the town board will discuss changing the laws governing the removal of yard waste from residential addresses.
Under the newly proposed law, all homeowners who currently have professionally maintained lawns will no longer be able to place their yard waste curbside for pick-up by the sanitation department. If passed, the new law will lead to increases in the cost of yard maintenance, as the cost of privately dumping the produced yard waste will fall solely on the homeowner.
Why should homeowners who already pay taxes for sanitation pick-up be penalized for having professionally maintained yards, while their neighbors may still place their yard waste at the curb? This law is discriminatory against those who choose to have professionally maintained lawns, and against those who are unable to maintain their own properties (elderly, ill, handicapped).
Please take the time to join us at Town Hall of Oyster Bay, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay on April 19 at 7:30 p.m. to let the board know we will not stand for these types of discriminations.
If you are unable to attend this hearing, please write Supervisor John Venditto and the board members and let them know you are against the proposed change in legislature at: Town Supervisor and board members, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, NY 11771; phone: 624-6300.
