Agatha Kenny Scardaville

Agatha was born July 24, 1916 and was the beloved daughter of Francis Kenny and Ella Hansen. She grew up with two siblings, her sister Ella Kenny Raser, a resident of Brightwaters, LI, and CDR Leonard Kenny, USNR, who died several years earlier in Norfolk, VA. She lived all of her life in the New York metropolitan area, first in Brooklyn, later in Queens, and for the last 50 plus years in Farmingdale. She loved having lived for so long in one house because she did not have that opportunity as a child, having moved many times. She was also able to have many great memories saved there of her friends, children, grandchildren, relatives and neighbors, and of her long career in civil service.

Agatha married Charles Scardaville, before he went away to WWII, and waited for her husband while he served as a medical corpsman on the European front. After the war they lived in Queens and had their only son, Thomas. In 1952, Charles, Agatha and Tom moved to Farmingdale at a time when America was young, and the future was bright. As many mothers at that time, she wanted to be sure that her son got a good education, and she was an active volunteer in her son's classes, as well as a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

When her son Tom was old enough to stay by himself, Agatha went to work as a bookkeeper for New York State. Her dedication to detailed work was highly appreciated by her supervisors and she retired as a senior payroll clerk after many years of service. She enjoyed her work and especially all of the wonderful people that she got to work with.

Agatha was a terrific Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit player, which she loved to play with her family. She had a bright mind with an incredible memory and was an honors graduate of her high school in New York City. She also loved to watch baseball games with her husband "Charlie." She was continually longing for more visits from her son and her grandchildren, who lived out of state, and to whom she will always be "Mom" and "Grandmommy." She will be missed by her family and friends, but their memories of her will keep her alive forever in their hearts.

The family had a memorial service in February for Agatha in Houston, TX, where her son now lives and her ashes will be interred there in Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Houston, TX.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Houston Chapter, 2909 W. Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025, or to Good Shepherd Hospice, 528 Mineola Blvd., Carle Place, NY 11614.
