The Farmingdale Community Summit Council presented the third annual Farmingdale Jumps basketball game on February 15. The event featured the Harlem Wizards versus a team consisting of teachers and administrators from the Farmingdale School District. The event was sponsored by the Farmingdale Community Summit Council, The Farmingdale Council of PTAs and Winning Beyond Winning. Proceeds from the event will be utilized by all three organizations to continue their programs to benefit our community.

Tom Sabellico, founder and president of both the Summit and Winning Beyond Winning, stated, "We were pleased to present a truly wholesome, family entertainment event for the community. It's an affordable and fun evening that gives hundreds of families in our community the opportunity to spend an evening together." He went on to thank Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Roberta Gerold for the school district's support and assistance during the event and Joan Tischner, President of the Farmingdale Council of PTAs for their participation and extra effort to make the evening a huge success.

Prior to the game the national anthem was sung by Farmingdale High School student, Jessica Carvo, while the Color Guard was presented by the South Farmingdale Fire Department. During halftime the fans were entertained by the Farmingdale High School Cheerleaders and Dalerettes. Former major leaguers Jim "Mudcat" Grant, Ryne Duren, and Fred Valentine, and former NY Jet Bobby Jackson appeared and signed autographs courtesy of Winning Beyond Winning.

Sabellico noted, "There is a special relationship between Winning Beyond Winning and the Farmingdale School District. Earlier today we were happy to present a Special Black History Month Program to the entire seventh grade at Howitt Middle School, featuring the life experiences of the former professional athletes."

The Summit is also responsible for other community projects including Farmingdale Reads, Farmingdale Writes, Farmingdale Remembers, and the Farmingdale Family Fund, helping Farmingdale families in need. The Summit meets at the Farmingdale Library on the second Thursday of the month at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend and participate.
