Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias recently sponsored a holiday party for four families and their young children who have been left homeless after an accidental fire at a Farmingdale apartment building completely destroyed their homes and belongings. The tragic Secatogue Avenue fire on Dec. 21 displaced four families and left many children without any gifts for the holiday or warm clothes to wear. Legislator Mejias responded immediately by spearheading an effort, along with La Casa Communal of Farmingdale, to collect new or gently used clothes and new toys for the young children so that they can have some gifts to mark the holiday season. After everything was collected, he held a huge holiday party to distribute the wonderful toys and donations. Over $1,000 has been collected, along with several boxes full of clothing and toys. Toys of Hope, a charity-based organization, also donated dozens of toys for the children at the party.
