The 11-year-old Hawks finished the regular season in third place with a record of 6-2. Their only losses to Massapequa 6-0, and Elmont 8-7 came after hard fought games, where their opponent scored the winning points with only seconds left to play. This put them in position to advance to the playoffs against second place Elmont. In a nail biting match, the score see sawed the whole game with the final deciding touchdown run in by Farmingdale in the last minute of play. The boys and fans were ecstatic. For the third year in a row, they would meet up with their biggest rival, Massapequa, in the Championship game.
They prepared in earnest for another opportunity to defeat the Chiefs. The half time score was 0-0. They were half way to possibly achieving this elusive win. The defense was impressive in keeping high scoring Massapequa out of the end zone. The offense moved the ball up and down the field, consistently gaining yardage, but couldn't get it across the goal line. In the third quarter, their dreams were dashed as Massapequa broke through the defense for a score. The clock ran out before Farmingdale was able to put the needed points on the board. Final score 8-0.
Although disappointed, the boys have played with grit, determination and team spirit all season. They continue to be a team to be reckoned with. The coaches, parents and all their fans are extremely proud of their accomplishments. It was a great year.
