Three champions were crowned at Woodward Parkway Field on Sunday, Nov. 14 as Farmingdale's PAL-NFL Flag Football League closed its inaugural season. It was a festive day for all who came to play or watch. Trophies were awarded to players and free refreshments were available for everybody. Various elected officials also stopped by to congratulate the kids for a great year.

And while all the players deserve praise, special congratulations go to the Pee Wee 49ers, the JV Raiders and the Varsity Jets. Those three teams are the best of the best. Here are the highlights from their Super Sunday.

The Pee Wee 49ers played their first game against the Giants displaying a strong defensive game as well as a very strategic offense. The 49ers beat the Giants 26-6 to advance to the Super Bowl. The 49ers then went on to beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl with the same explosive offense and tenacious defense. In winning the Super Bowl, the 49ers became not only became the champs, but also were the only undefeated Pee Wee team in the league. The 49ers finished the regular season and playoffs with a spectacular 11-0 record. Congratulations on a well deserved championship win.

The Raiders were crowned the Junior Varsity Super Bowl champions Sunday, playing some of their best ball of the year. Needing to defeat both the Giants and the previously undefeated 49ers, the Raiders played nearly flawless football throughout the day.

The morning started off with the Raiders facing the Giants to determine who would be moving onto the Super Bowl. Using both an aerial and ground attack the Raiders offense, led by quarterback Frank Lettieri defeated the Giants in a decisive 32-14 victory. Making smart use of their two primary wide receivers, John Ragno and Lucas Sall the Raider offense was a dominant force throughout the day. Taking snaps from TJ Knight and James Pitch, the Raiders offense was able to maintain sustained drives throughout the game, without a single Raider turnover or penalty.

After defeating the Giants, the Raiders then moved on to face the 49ers in the championship game. The 49ers came into the Super Bowl undefeated, having previously beaten the Raiders earlier in the season. The name of the game for the Raiders was defense, holding the 49ers to a single touchdown and on the way to a 32-6 victory. Defensively, Lucas Sall was assigned to defend against all short routes, a known 49ers strength while Raymond Webb and Zack Yashnyk were assigned deep coverage. Pass rushing was handled by Rob Tempesta and William Hassett with both players limiting the 49ers to little or no time in the pocket.

The victory over the 49ers gave the Raiders the championship title culminating a great season of football.

The Varsity Jets played two games on Sunday, the first game was a very well played game by both teams. Each team entered the playoff game having split the season against each other. Cody Chuchul made his return from an injury to lead the Jets to the playoff victory, Touchdowns were scored by Zack Hirsh, Joseph Edwards and Christopher Saunders. Brian Mahon did a great job at center. Excellent job rushing the quarterback by Michael Tuuzzuolo,Carina Bonilla and Kristin Morrison. Corey Simone helped on both offense and defense. Two lead changes in the last five minutes made for a very exciting game.

In the championship game, the Jets played the 49ers. Again a great job at quarterback by Cody and an excellent leaping catch in the end zone by Zach Hirsh started off the game. Great offense and defense by both teams made for a fantastic game. For the Jets, excellent on both offense and defense were Zach Hirsh, Joseph Edwards and Brian Mahon. Three interceptions by Christopher Saunders was his season high. Excellent job rushing the quarterback again by Carina Bonilla, Kristin Morrison and Corey Simone. Michael Tuzzuolo rushed from both sides and covered man to man. Again, lead changes in the final minutes made it an exciting game, one the Jets were fortunate to pull out.
