According to the Nassau County police report the crash occurred on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The report went on to state that an ambulance from the Nassau County Police Department transported Nakamori to New Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m. Nakamori was a 2003 graduate of Bethpage High School. Mangano, the niece of Legislator Edward Mangano, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where she was admitted and listed in critical condition. At around 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15 she was pronounced dead.

Leequan Wilson, 17, of Westbury was also taken to NUMC and was listed in stable condition. According to hospital officials Wilson was discharged on Tuesday, Nov. 16. The third passenger, Dianna Delio, 15, of Bethpage was transported to Winthrop University Hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Detectives reported that a black 1994 Acura, operated by Nakamori, was travelling northbound on Stewart Avenue at a high rate of speed and lost control between Sycamore and Maple Avenues, hitting an utility pole on the east side of Stewart Avenue. The vehicle wrapped around the pole and pinned two injured persons inside the vehicle.

According to a town official, that particular portion of Stewart Avenue in Bethpage has claimed the lives of several people in the last year. The official said kids refer to is as Úquot;the runwayÚquot;, as in a stretch of roadway where they can usually speed.

Nassau County Police Department Emergency Service Unit and Bethpage Fire Department responded and extricated the two injured persons from the vehicle. Long Island Power Authority responded to secure the pole, according to police, and the Acura was impounded for brake and safety checks. The investigation is continuing.

Bethpage High School has posted the following message on their school website:

Úquot;Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Mangano and Nakamori families. Our thoughts are also with the other students involved in this tragic accident as we pray for their full recovery. To help our school community cope with this tragedy, the High School Crisis Intervention Team, including additional school psychologists and social workers, are available to students, staff, and families.

Unfortunately, the Bethpage School community has experienced more than its share of grief in recent years. Over the last two years, Bethpage High School has conducted assemblies and brought speakers from the police department to talk to students and parents about the importance of exercising good judgment behind the wheel and respecting the rules of the road. All students enrolling in Driver Education classes, along with their parents, meet with school and law enforcement officials to discuss driver safety awareness. We will continue to do this and provide the necessary support for our students and families.Úquot;
