Playing in front of their home field fans, the Hawks started the game in their usual fashion, slowly.
After a scoreless first quarter and with less than two minutes left in the half, the Hawks finally woke up. On a perfectly thrown pass from Kyle Radtke, Tyler Ward leaped over two defenders to grab the ball for a 30-yard gain. Ward took a quarterback power around end to the one-foot line. Radtke scored a quarterback keeper. The great blocking of Jack Doupe, Marcus Bishop, Chris Pochat, Ronnie Kramer, James Sunde, Joe Woodland and Scott Manning helped the Hawks score their first touchdown.
In the second half, the Hawks took the ball behind the runs of Oneique Watson-Smikle, Radtke, Ward and Robert "Junior" Clemons who ran for the first touchdown of his career, a 15-yard run. Junior also added the extra point.
The defense, led by Rocky Santopadre, Daniel Toledo, Shane McLune, Phillip Morel, Bryan Saur, Garret Reynolds, Anthony Gomes, Ward, Radtke, Clemons, Casey Gordon, Watson-Smikle and Robert Brienza, held East Rockaway to only two first downs all game.
Finishing off the scoring was Junior with a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown and Radtke with a 55-yard interception return for the final score. The special teams were great all game with Gordon's long kickoffs and Ward's kickoff return of 30 yards. The final score was 25-0. The team would like to thank everyone for the great support, especially the cheerleaders, who are doing a great job this year.
