The Farmingdale Beautification Committee is comprised of local residents and business members who are dedicated to beautifying the Village of Farmingdale. For more than a decade, this devoted group of volunteers has continually improved the esthetic quality of living and doing business in Farmingdale as well as fostering pride and involvement of our children in community service. Many Girl Scout and Eagle Scout community service projects are coordinated through the committee's efforts. The group, aided by the Village Department of Works and a contracted landscaper maintain five major gardens, the village's decorative entrances and Emil Gerngras children's park. They also decorate Main Street for the holidays and coordinate the Adopt-A-Tree-Well program. Over 80 tree wells on Main Street are adopted by local businesses, community groups and individuals who design a flower garden. They also have been charged with finishing the landscaping of our new Village Gazebo. The committee's extraordinary work truly makes our village a better place to live, work and play.

At this time, I would also like to acknowledge and thank Karen Benson for her dedication and hard work as the chairperson of the committee. Benson is stepping down from her position to pursue many of her other activities. Karen has served the village well and has set a fine example for those to follow.

The village is committed to expanding and enhancing the committee's efforts. My administration has allocated the funding for it to continue. I have assigned Trustee Dorfmeister to act as their liaison and we will be receiving additional support from our new DPW Superintendent Fred Zamparelle and his department. What we need are volunteers and a new chairperson. The committee holds bi-monthly meetings at Village Hall and truly does make a difference in our village. If you are interested in assisting, please stop by Village Hall or call us at 249-0093. Please get involved and become part of another group that sets our village apart from the rest.
