It was a another beautiful Sunday for flag football last weekend at Woodward Parkway Field and everyone on hand saw some fantastic games. Here are the highlights.

The 49ers and Panthers played an outstanding game. The 49ers scored three times, including rushing touchdowns by Nick Cappellino and Jim Grassi and a long pass from Trevor Clark to Vincent Fisher. Coaches Cappellino and Simons were proud of the performance from all their 49ers. Game balls were presented to Jim Grassi and Vincent Fisher.

The high powered Panthers also played a great game on both sides of the ball. Alex Stein, Jack Nonnermann and Tim Dolan did a super job running with the pigskin. The passing was handled by Conner Costarella and Tom Donovan who both played great games. The defense was led by the blitzing twins Anthony and Paul Morante.

The Peanut NY Giants had their best day yet scoring five touchdowns. The scoring got started when CJ scrambled away from three defenders and threw a pass to Justin who ran for a touchdown. Richie scored his first touchdown of the season and CJ, Joseph, and Justin ran for the other three Giants scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, after allowing two early touchdowns, the NY Giants played outstanding team defense and did not allow another score for the remainder of the game. The NY Giants are playing well, having fun, and are looking forward to next week's match up.

The Peanut Jets made a great team effort. The game started off with a touchdown by Kevin Costanza, thanks to a great hand off by Julia Presta. Thomas Weber also made a contribution with a 30-yard run for a touch down.

Sean and Tyler Moloney spelled double trouble for the Giants with beautiful running plays of their own. Brendan Gallagher and Kevin Mumolo played a great defensive game. Matthew Presta had a beautiful run in the first half, as well as James Cavanavol who improves with each game. Thank you to all the players for giving every game their all.

The Raiders beat the Jets 28-26 in the Pee Wee Division. On the first play of the game, the Jets' Bryan Kaufman jumped the Raiders pass route and intercepted the ball. The Jets quickly seized the opportunity and scored when Sean Timmons threw a perfectly timed pass to Bryan. After that, the game became a defensive battle. The Jets defense, led by Matthew D'Antonio, Marc Dittmeier, and Gregory Maghjakian, prevented the Raiders offense from sustaining any early drives. After a Sean Timmons' interception, the Jets again capitalized on the turnover with Bryan Kaufman hitting Sean for a touchdown. After the Raiders cut the lead to 12 - 6, Ryan Psinakis threw a perfect pass over the middle for the Jets' longest pass completion of the year and Bryan's second touchdown of the day.

In the second half, Sean threw a pass to Jonathan Úquot;Crazy LegsÚquot; Ascatigno, who zigzagged his way through the Raiders defense for the score. The Jets' Kevin Gallagher then ran a great pass route and caught the two point conversion bringing the score to 26-6. While other teams may have been demoralized, the Raiders came charging back with a score of their own to cut the score to 26-12. The Raiders' defense then began to wear down the Jets' offense, which were missing the skills of Chris Moloney, who was home sick. The Raiders offense then scored again and converted the two point conversion bringing the score to 26-20 score. With a little over a minute to go in the game, the Raiders' coaches called for a running play that was executed perfectly and a Raiders' player ran the length of the field for the tying score. As the clock was running out, the Raiders scored the two point conversion for a thrilling come-from-behind win.

At the game's end, both teams met in the middle of the field to congratulate each other on a great game. This was P.A.L. Flag Football and sportsmanship at its best. The Raiders' and Jets' coaches are proud of the tremendous effort that these second and third graders are giving each week at the practices and games.

The JV Raiders won their fourth game of the season Sunday with a hard fought 24-12 win over the Jets. Luca Sall and Frank Lettieri led the Raiders offense with three of the team's four touchdowns. Defensively, it was Zack Yashnyk and Rob Tempesta who led the way, holding off a late Jets' comeback.

Missing several key players, the Raiders pulled together for a scrappy victory that was a great team effort. Next week, the Cowboys will surely test the Raiders, as they go up against their tough defense.

The JV Patriots improved to 3-1 with a 19-12 win over the Giants. The Giants scored early and the Pats answered with two touchdowns from Anthony Mangione to Nick Panza. In the second half, Matt Weir shined with a touchdown and two interceptions. Defensively, the Patriots were inspired by intense pressure from a blitzing Sarah Hecht and two touchdown saving flag grabs by Nathan Kircheim.

Catching up on some previous Pats games, on week three they beat the Eagles 25-18 in a dogfight. After trialing 12-0, the defense shut down the Eagles with key interceptions by Anthony Magione and Nick Panza. The offense stormed back to tie it at 18 and a clutch grab by Evan Saur put the Pats ahead to stay. James Mangione sealed the win in the last minute with a nifty catch and run for a touchdown.

In the Pats second game, they took on the powerful 49ers. Matt Weir hit Nick Panza with a touchdown pass to pull the Pats within six points. But a late touchdown by the 49ers gave them a 26-18 win

The JV Patriots started off the season with an impressive win over the Cowboys. Sarah Hecht and Chris Romano shined in a great defensive effort as the Pats shut down a high-powered Cowboys offense that matched score for score in the second half.

The JV Bengals lost to the Eagles, but not before a gutsy second half comeback that fell just short. With the Eagles leading 18-0 early in the second half, the Bengals found both their offense and defense. Interceptions by Vincent Mavaro and Kyle Gary provided field position that led to touchdowns by Vinnie and Jen Sweeney. Defensively, Frank Pelligrino and Paul O'Donnell also played well helping give the Bengals a chance to tie late in the game. The Eagles won 24-12, but Bengals coaches and parents were proud of the effort their kids displayed.

The Varsity Jets had a good outing Sunday in game dedicated to Cody Chuchul, who was hurt last week and is out for the season. Christopher Saunders played great at quarterback. Touchdowns were scored by Zach Hirsh, Joseph Edwards and Christopher Saunders. Michael Tuzzuolo did an outstanding job rushing the quarterback, while Carina Bonilla did a nice job running the football. Brian Mahoon was great at center and Kristin Morrison helped out on offense and defense. Everyone had a great time.
