I would like to address a recent issue that has been brought to my attention concerning the parking situation at St. Luke's School on Prospect Street in the Village of Farmingdale. As a member of St. Luke's, it disturbs me to inform you that a recent letter issued to the parents of St. Luke's students was prepared by an individual, without the approval of the St. Luke's board. The misinformation that has been put forth is causing confusion and concern for many.
To set the record straight, policies for parking and transportation of children to and from St. Luke's were established in 1991 with the St. Luke's board. The restrictions were done in conjunction with the expansion of the school and camp operation. These parking policies were developed by the Nassau County Police, the Village of Farmingdale and St. Luke's with one thing in mind, the safety of the children. At the time the St. Luke's application for extension was approved, it was specifically understood that Prospect Street would not be used for drop off and pick up of children.
The new signs are just a reminder of the policy for those who might not know of the restrictions or why they were put into place. We will continue to work with the St. Luke's board to assure the safety of all concerned. I hope this clarifies this matter.
