The Long Island 9/11 Memorial Fund will hold its second annual "Reading of the Names" memorial service at Farmingdale State University of New York on Saturday, September 11 at 1 p.m. in front of Horton Hall.
The names of over 450 Long Islanders who perished on September 11, 2001 will be read by local leaders at an outdoor ceremony near the College's 9/11 memorial garden.
Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, president of Farmingdale State, will welcome guests to the campus. A keynote speech, titled "Bringing Long Island Together," will be given by Long Island Ducks owner Frank Boulton who lost a family member from Cantor Fitzgerald in the tragedy.
Addressing the spiritual aspect of the memorial service are Rabbi Marc Gellman of Temple Beth Torah (of "God Squad" fame) and Fr. Kevin Smith of St. Francis DeSales RC Church of Patchogue. Dr. Thomas Demaria, a clinical psychologist who is the Administrative Director of Behavioral Health Services at South Nassau Communities Hospital, will also be speaking.
Music will be provided by the Northport Pipes and Drums and the Upper Rooms ensemble. Representatives from state, local and national organizations are expected.
