The OTH schedule resumed on July 9th as most teams came back from a two-week layoff. Continuing their outstanding season (11-0), Singletons demonstrated that the break had no effect on their bats as they had a convincing 30-10 win over Bethpage PT in a game called after 7 innings. Singletons started out smoking as they built a 21-3 lead after five when Bethpage tried to make it a game by scoring 7 in the 6th but it was answered immediately by Big Red with 9 runs in their half of the inning. Hitting stars for Singletons with 4 hits apiece were Dennis Passaretti, Jack Howlett and Tom Callahan. Those with 3-hit-nights were Tommy Sorrentino, Rich Smindak, John Gannon, Steve Buchter and Bob Davis (including a HR). Bethpage dropped to 1-10 with the loss. Synergy continued their fine play as they improved to 7-2-2 with their victory over Hampton Air, who fell to 4-6. Hampton Air started hitting and scoring early as they took a six-run lead after 2 innings during which time the semi-green team was unable to get on track. Eventually the Synergy attack began and didn't end until they came away with a 16-11 win. Veteran Larry Lembo stepped into pitch a great game with the usual hurlers absent or injured. The amazing Richie Dargie, playing on a badly injured knee, had 3 hits along with Mike Maier, Tommy Vanasco, Denny Oehl and Larry Lembo. After being placed into the leadoff spot for the first time, rookie Jim Doyle went 2-3 w/ a walk to keep the momentum going for Synergy who, along with Barco, is trying to stay within striking distance of 1st Place Singletons. Much to Kevin Moloney's dismay, Dennis Ryan took to the mound for Barco as they faced off with Changing Times. Unfortunately for Dennis, the plate apparently kept moving as he walked the first 8 batters before turning the ball over to Steve Schwind, who faired only slightly better as CT jumped out to a 10 zip lead after 1 innings. From there Terry McPartland came in and saved the day for Barco as he shut down CT the rest of the way, holding them to just 2 more runs. The Barco bats slowly chipped away, scoring over the final six innings to take an exciting 14-12 win in a game called after 7. Leading the come-back were Kevin Moloney, who smacked a 3-run-fence-clearing HR, and Terry McPartland, who had 3 RBIs of his own on 2-2 & sac fly. Rick Pedone, who was 2-2 w/ a BB, had the clutch 2 out hit in the 6th to give Barco the lead they never relinquished. Others adding to the Barco offense were Dave Saur, 3-4 triple, Dave Ringer, 3-3-sac fly, and Steve Schwind, double triple 2 RBI. The win put Barco @ 9-3 as CT dropped to 3-9. National League leaders, Mers, won their 5th in a row as they defeated a struggling M&T team. Mers record is now 7-2-1, M&T is 2-10. No results/highlights were reported for B&M/Bar Boy and Moby/O'Sheas games.
