Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias and the Nassau County Commission on Human Rights Job Development Center recently announced that there are many employment options available to students interested in learning how Nassau County government works.

"This summer we are asking all students between the ages of 17 to 21, who are interested in learning about government, to come on down and apply for an important summer position," said Mejias. "It's a great opportunity for students to learn how various government departments and agencies function and the impact they have on residents."

The summer aide program provides full time employment for continuing students in various agencies throughout Nassau County government. High school and college teens are required to apply with a resume and must satisfy all basic eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements include:

* Students must be 17 years old prior to the starting date of the program (Proof required)

* Must be a full time student at the time of submitting Summer Aide application and must be continuing as a full time student in September (Proof Required)

* Must be Nassau County resident. (Proof required)

* Must be able to work full time (35-40 hours per week)

* Each student must complete all necessary forms and have a current medical examination within the last six months.

* Civil Service Application

* Medical Report (Completed by doctor)

* Working papers (students who are 17)

* Form I-9

* Income Form

* W-4 Form

All forms must be returned in person within 10 days

Students must attend the orientation session

The summer program will start mid-June for some college students and the first week of July for all high school students at a rate of $8 per hour. For further information or clarification, please call the Job Development Center at 571-3553.
