Firefighters enter the burning garage on Hallock Street last week.

Last Friday, May 21, at 5:15 a.m. during a heavy thunderstorm in the area, the Farmingdale Fire Department, led by Chief Richard Tortoso, responded to a garage fire at 86 Hallock Street. It was determined that a bolt of lightning struck a tree in the rear yard, causing the garage to ignite. While at the scene, firefighters were made aware that there was another tree burning down the block at Hallock Street and Secatogue Avenue. This was caused by a broken LIPA line. The garage fire was quickly extinguished by 25 members of the Farmingdale Fire department and LIPA was called to help with the broken line.
