The Sons of Italy-Columbus Lodge #2143 Golf Committee recently announced that the eighth annual Columbus Lodge Charity Golf Outing (CLGO) will be held on Tuesday, May 4 at the Bethpage Golf Course, home of the 2004 Long Island Classic and the 2002 US Open.

At last year's outing everyone had a fun-filled day of golf while raising money for local charities. This year, the Columbus Lodge invites all to their annual Charity Golf Outing on May 4 at the Bethpage Golf Course.

According to Golf Chairman Tony Ragno, the entry fee will be $130 per person and includes a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start, golf cart, continental breakfast, refreshments, snacks and dinner. According to a lodge spokesperson, this is a perfect opportunity for local businessmen to treat their elite clients to a wonderful day of golf and dinner at a reasonable price.

Those interested in participating may sign up as a foursome or as an individual. Those who sign up as an individual will be made part of a foursome by the lodge. For further information, call Chairman Tony Ragno at 586-4117.

The day will begin with a pre-golf continental breakfast at the Bethpage Golf Course (serving will begin as early as 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.). During this time golfers make take the opportunity to practice at the range. At 7:45 a.m., a shotgun start will mark the beginning of 18 holes of golf on Bethpage's Green Course. At the halfway point, each player will be given a refreshment and snack (which will include a hamburger, hotdog and soda or beer).

Following a round of golf, each player will be invited to the fabulous Stewart Thomas Manor, located minutes from the course, for an early buffet dinner. At the dinner, prizes will be awarded for the closest to the pin, 50/50 money hole, longest drive (over/under 55 y/o), lowest score (Callaway system) and the most honest golfer. In addition, raffles will be available for purchase with top-of-the-line golf apparel and equipment among the prizes.

One unique feature about the CLGO is the opportunity of local merchants, civic associations, and/or individuals to support Long Island charities by sponsoring a golf hole or tee. According to co-Chairman Bill Iannone, the cost of the "hole sponsorship" begins at a reasonable $50. A plaque with the sponsor's name will be displayed on any of the sponsored golf holes.

Now celebrating their 40th year, the Columbus Lodge #2143 is a not-for-profit fraternal organization and member of the Order Sons of Italy in America. The lodge offers its members various social and recreational activities, as well as community involvement. To become a member of this organization, contact Steve LaScala at 735-2535.
