Farmingdale resident Sylvia Claase was one of 19 honorees who were recognized for service to their communities at the Nassau County Legislature's "Women: Trailblazers of the New Millennium" awards. Claase was nominated by Legislator Dave Mejias and was honored at an awards presentation held March 22.
Claase was recognized for her sincere and extraordinary efforts in the 14th Legislative District. She was described as an outstanding example of an active, innovative role model and positive community leader.
A dynamic constituent with a lengthy history of leadership and participation, Claase has been heavily involved with the Village of Farmingdale, serving as a chairperson and commissioner of the Beautification Committee and a member and recruiter of the chamber of commerce. She has also donated a majority of her time to St. Lukes Church serving on the Christian Education Committee, Vacation Bible School Program, Athletic Association Participant, Children's Choir, etc.
Claase has also volunteered a majority of her time at Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School, where she served on the PTA Executive Board, acted as a classroom representative and participated on the Shared Decision Making Team. She also is honored for her dedication to the Long Island Fund for Women & Girls as a Development Associate.
"Sylvia's exemplary dedication and sincere obligation to her community does not go unnoticed," said Mejias. "Her devoted trail of active community involvement and commitment is a path that everyone should choose to follow."
