In February, Sal Gioeli, president of the Farmingdale Soccer Club, was inducted into the LIJSL Hall of Fame.
This honor came about, as Gioeli has been the club president for over 25 years. Through his guidance, he has seen this club grow from 100 participants to over 1,500 today. At that time very little was spoken about this sport, however, the people who started this league, including Gioeli, had the foresight to see soccer was a great participation sport that did not only appeal to boys, but to girls too. As a matter of fact, the Farmingdale Soccer Club has almost equal numbers in both boys and girls programs.
With Gioeli's leadership, the club has instituted a coaches training program, referee training clinics and in the near future they will have a training program for those who wish to pursue soccer at the highest levels.
It has always been Gioeli's belief that the goal of the club is to provide a place for the "average" player who needs to participate in organized sporting activities. Gioeli strongly believes that the needs of the intramural player are as important of those of the Division I travel player. It is through this foresight and drive that has made Farmingdale Soccer what it is today.
Gioeli sees all the children of Farmingdale as his "grandchildren" and treats them that way. This honor is richly deserved and the club salutes and congratulates him for his guidance.
