Gas Leak Closes Down Conklin
A typical Friday morning in the Village of Farmingdale suddenly became an emergency scene involving police and fire authorities and local officials when a high-pressure gas main on Conklin Street unexpectedly ruptured on Feb. 27. Since the main services a majority of residential and commercial properties on Conklin, approximately 300 people had to be evacuated, including 100 homes and businesses and two nearby schools - St. Luke's Nursery School and Pitter Patter Early Childhood Learning Center.
Farmingdale Lobbying Committee to Discuss State Budget in Albany
"Fair Funding for Education - The Time is Now!" is the rallying cry of the Farmingdale Lobbying Committee, who will be visiting Albany on Tuesday, March 23 to discuss a number of elements in Governor Pataki's proposed budget that will significantly impact school districts. Foremost on their agenda is the reinstatement of lost state aid. This aid must be fully restored in order to preserve academic programs, according to the committee.
Dalers Swim to Sixth Place Finish
Continuing a season-long trend, the Dalers turned in 16 personal best times, and added two additional season best times on their way to a 6th place finish in the Nassau County Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at Eisenhower Park. Farmingdale entered the season ranked 8th in Nassau. They finished 9th in the county meet last season.
Running Club Meeting to Feature Training Tips
The featured program at the March 16 meeting of the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) will be a clinic on Training Tips for beginning and intermediate runners, presented by the GLIRC Men's and Fast Feet Women's Racing Teams.
