Plans are currently under way for the inaugural Long Island Two Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, which will be held this June at Smith Point County Park and follow a scenic 20-mile route to Cathedral Pines Park, where participants will camp overnight in the mobile city. The event will begin on June 5, and the following day participants will return via a 15-mile route to Smith Point for closing ceremonies.

The experience will be inspirational and rewarding for all those who participate. Walk organizers expect to host 1,000 to 2,000 walkers who will raise $1,500 in order to participate. The goal - to raise what may be over $1 million for various Long Island breast health organizations which are important leaders in the fight against breast cancer. The Maurer Foundation, the Huntington Breast Care Coalition, the Babylon Breast Health Coalition, Long Island Sisters Network and the Adelphi Hotline are a few of the organizations that will benefit from this event and other local support groups are also under consideration.
This is a unique opportunity for 100 percent of the net proceeds to stay here on Long Island - but this is a massive effort. Residents are encouraged to pass the good news to their friends and relatives and encourage them to register as walkers, volunteers and crew members. Walk organizers are looking for help from every possible source and corporate sponsors at every level of financial and in-kind support are most welcome. Anyone who knows of a company, group or who might be interested in lending financial or any other kind of support is asked to call Ginny Salerno at 631-724-7047.
