Edna Phyllis Boulanger, of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Farmingdale, lost her battle with cancer, after 2 1/2 years, on Jan. 19, 2004 at age 75. Wife of the late Michael. Sister of Muriel and Daniel Magnani of Boca Raton, FL, and Lorraine Mitchell of Wading River, NY. Mother of Gary Boulanger, a NY police officer, of Holbrook. Grandmother of Michael, Steven and Jessica. Aunt of Kay Corali, Nancy Degen, Joan Wilcox and Melody Di Gregorio. Great-aunt of 11. Edna was a strong and independent woman who never backed down from any challenge, including cancer. She had a colorful career as the first Christian flight attendant for El Al, where she met her husband, Mike. Edna was one of the first women police officers to serve NYC. She worked for Trio Labs in Plainview and Fiberglass Resources as well. When she retired, she relocated to Deerfield Beach where she worked for the American Association of Retired Dentists, until shortly before her death. After the early death of her husband at 31, she continued to raise Gary, only 18 months old, by herself, while maintaining a career at home. Ever the pioneer, Edna was the first woman to manage a baseball Little League team in Farmingdale, which she did faithfully for eight years. She also coached girl's basketball. Edna was an energetic, charismatic woman, who people relied on and were drawn to. Her vivacity and wit were sharp till the end, even trying to protect her loved ones from pain.
