The old saying "time flies" surely rings true for the owners of Captain Andy's restaurant, Sven and Boel Brost. After all the ups and downs of the restaurant industry, the couple has sold their business at 196 Main Street and is retiring after 42 years.
Starting out as a small village fish market in 1961, Sven and Boel worked long, hard hours and eventually expanded their tiny fish store into a full-fledged restaurant.
For many years it was a village favorite, catering to local business people, community leaders and many families of the Farmingdale community.
The family-run restaurant has been more than just a business to the Brosts. As the years passed the customers who continued to visit have become more like friends than just mere clientele. That is why selling the business is touched with more than a trace of sadness.
The fact that Captain Andy's has hosted countless family gatherings, including anniversaries, baby showers, weddings (including those of the Brosts daughters) and birthday parties, makes saying goodbye a little harder.
Yet change is inevitable ... and the time has come for the Brosts, the Florestas and the crew of Captain Andy's to wish the new owners much success and thank our dear friends and customers for their years of loyal patronage.
