Plans are rapidly taking shape for the Village of Farmingdale's 100th anniversary celebration of incorporation, which will take place during the year of 2004. Festivities will include a carnival, parade and street fair in July, as well as a host of other events throughout the year, all focusing on the centennial theme.
Mayor Joseph Trudden is urging local groups and organizations to utilize the 100th anniversary theme for one or more of their events during the year.
"This exciting time in the history of Farmingdale offers a unique opportunity for organizations based in the village to conduct a new event in honor of the centennial or to apply a 100th anniversary theme to an existing program" the mayor said. "In turn, the village will provide special acknowledgement of the group's participation in an official commemorative program and in quarterly newsletters, whenever possible."
The village has formed a special committee to oversee the celebration plans, and the members are working feverishly to bring the activities together.
"In order to be included in our plans and written materials, local organizations must make their intentions known before the end of the year," said Committee Chairman William J. Johnston, who also serves as the village's historian.
Representatives of local organizations interested in participating are urged to contact the Centennial Celebration Committee by calling 249-0093, or by writing to the Village of Farmingdale, 361 Main Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
"Our citizens have much to celebrate in Farmingdale and the centennial is a perfect time to display the pride we all have in this fine community," Mayor Trudden concluded. "I encourage you to get involved in this once in a lifetime opportunity."
