All local residents are invited to attend a slide-lecture on the legacy of Grumman in Bethpage in the auditorium of the Bethpage Library on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Town of Oyster Bay's 350th Anniversary Lecture/Tour Series.
"Lois Lovisolo of the Bethpage Public Library will present a slide-lecture, on behalf of the Central Park Historical Society, on the history of Grumman in Bethpage, from 1937 to today," said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto. "Old photographs will recall the days when history was made at Grumman - the birthplace of the Lunar Module, the first spacecraft to land on the moon. Grumman retirees are especially encouraged to attend and take a trip down memory lane."
The Bethpage Public Library is located at 47 Powell Avenue.
The town-wide 350th Anniversary Lecture/Tour Series highlights the local history of individual communities throughout Oyster Bay while celebrating the collective heritage of the town. In addition to the Bethpage slide/lecture, lectures and/or tours are taking place in Hicksville, Farmingdale, Jericho, Massapequa, and Oyster Bay hamlet. A full series schedule is available at www.oysterbaytown.com, or by calling 624-6389.
"All are cordially invited to attend the slide-lecture on Wednesday, October 22, at the Bethpage Library and the entire town-wide lecture/tour series and join in celebrating our local history and the Town of Oyster Bay's 350th Anniversary," Venditto concluded.
In conjunction with the series and the Town of Oyster Bay's 350th Anniversary, an informative town brochure highlighting the many historical points of interest throughout the town is also available and may be obtained by calling 624-6389.
