The Farmingdale Wolves boys U-12 travel soccer team's record went to 2-0 this past weekend with a solid win over the Glen Cove Scorpions. While the final score was 2-1 in favor of the Wolves, it does not adequately reflect the Farmingdale team's dominance throughout the game.

The Wolves' strong backfield - Peter Badalamente, Cody Chuchul, Bobby Godas, Eric Martello, Peter Thompson and Jackson Weber - created a virtual wall that the Scorpions could just not penetrate, despite the field absence of Jonathan Delmore and Nicholas Casey who were recuperating under doctors' orders.

But the Wolves' offensive line had no problem penetrating the Scorpions' defense, scoring twice in the first half. The Wolves' first goal was scored by Xavier Bonilla off an excellent pass by Zachary Wetzel; the second by Joe Kennedy off a rebound by the opposition's goalkeeper. The rest of the Wolves offensive line - Andrew Erker, Tommy Esposito, Jonathan Lyons, Eddie O'Hara, Chris Pendergast and Brandon Veracka - kept the Scorpions' strong goalkeeper more than busy, racking up multiple shots on goal. The Wolves' goalkeeper Matt Ward also did an excellent job, allowing only one goal in the game's final minutes off a bad bounce in front of a crowded net.

Following the win, Wolves' coach Chris Pendergast and assistant coaches Kevin Lyons and John Veracka congratulated all the boys for their outstanding teamwork and presented the coveted "game ball" to three players: Jackson Weber for his outstanding defensive play; to Chris Pendergast for pouring it on offensively and to Brandon Veracka for playing the center midfield position perfectly. Each game ball is used by its winner at practices throughout following week - and serves as a reminder to each player that he is key in making the Farmingdale Wolves the "team to beat" this season.
