The Nassau County Police Department's 8th Precinct is asking local residents, particularly those who live in the areas of South Farmingdale and North Massapequa, for their assistance. According to 8th Precinct officers, these areas have been targeted for residential burglaries. Officers are asking residents to keep a watchful eye and report any suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhood by calling 911.
Police officers noted that there are some precautions residents can take to help protect themselves from becoming a victim. Residents are encouraged to place lights on timers, stop newspaper deliveries and have somebody collect their mail for them while they are out of town. Since an abundance of mail gathering or newspaper piles can make it appear as though a homeowner is away, vacationing residents are also encouraged to notify their neighbors or local relatives to keep an eye on their home while they are out of town.
Officers noted that with the community's help, residents and police working together can continue to make Nassau County a safe place to live and work.
