On June 9 players from the LI Lady Riders and the NY Jets left their soccer and football fields, respectively, to participate in a celebrity softball game against the team from Krispy Kreme, at the Mitchel Field Complex in Uniondale. The event was held to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island ("RMH"). Also taking part in the event were Farmingdale's Columbus Lodge #2143 and Computer Associates.

Over 15 representatives from the Jets were on hand, including Aaron Beasley, Anthony Becht, Tyrone Carter, Sam Cowart, Lamont Jordan, Mo Lewis, Kevin Swayne and GM Terry Bradway. "They (RMH) do so many great things for young kids and this is the least we can do," said Jets tight end Anthony Becht. "I know our guys are having a good time."

Despite the celebrities losing 13-9, Columbus Lodge #2143's Rita DiSalvo remarked, "These girls (the Lady Riders) can really play softball." The Lady Riders are two-time National Champions of the USL W-League, America's soccer league for women. Among the celebrated players who have donned a Lady Riders' jersey are Dina Case, Margaret Tietjen, Gina Tucker, Christie Welsh, Sara Whelen, and Kim Wyant.

Continuing their commitment to the RMH, the New York Jets will host their Annual Jets Alumni Golf Outing on Thursday, August 14 at the Brookville Country Club. The event will feature a round of golf with former Jets players as well as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a live auction. For more information on the Jets Alumni Golf Outing call Jeanne Ellis at (718) 343-5683 x 40 or email jellis@rmhlongisland.org.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is a not-for-profit corporation that provides a temporary lodging facility for seriously ill children and their families who must travel to area hospitals for urgently needed medical care. These families stay at the House while their child is under a physician's care. Since opening its doors in 1986, the New Hyde Park based facility has served almost 7,500 families.

The RMH, located just outside the doors of the Schneider Children's Hospital, is currently in the middle of a $5-million capital campaign to expand their facility from 18 bedrooms to 42 bedrooms. "Donate for the children," urged Columbus Lodge's Anthony Curran. Anyone interested in making a donation should contact RMH Executive Director Silvana Gullo at (516) 775-LOVE ext. 31.
