Knapp, 90 died on July 5, 2003 at Charter County Hospital, West Chester, PA. Mrs. Knapp was born in Roslyn Heights, the daughter of the late Elbert Van Nostrand and the late Caroline Denton Van Nostrand. A graduate of Goucher College, she received her master's in social work from Columbia University. She was a social worker for Nassau County for 17 years, retiring in 1951. Grace was a member of the Stony Brook Community United Methodist Church and the Three Village Garden Club. In 1994 she moved from Stony Brook to Crosslands, Kennett Square, PA. She was predeceased in 1976 by her husband of 25 years, Halsey B. Knapp (past president of the State University of NY at Farmingdale). She is survived by one stepdaughter, Janet Byles of Oberlin, OH; a sister, Carolyn V. Moss of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
