OTH game results from June 27 had Changing Times and J-2 battling to a 12-12 tie. CT came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game with Danny Haus getting the key, game tying hit. Having big nights at the plate for CT were Rob Bischof (4-4) and Billy Wahl (3-4). Defensively the trophy winner was Charles Conners for his outstanding defense. The Synergy - Bar Boy game brought back memories of hard fought games of years past, this time with Synergy coming out on top 19-14. Tom Vanasco continued to show that he is one of the league's big hitters with a 3-3 night including 2 HRs. Timely hitting by Larry Lembo, Bruce Coonan, Billy Fitzpatrick and Dennis Oehl brought in the runs Synergy needed for victory. The last National League result had Moby over Bethpage PT 17-7. On the American League side, M&T continued their winning ways beating Mers 20-16. Vince Cardulo was again the hitting star for M&T, collecting 3 hits including a HR and 3 RBIs. Also getting 3 hits were Nat Corrao and Tom LaCorte. Bill Kelly added 2 hits and made a sensational diving catch that saved 2 runs. The middle game paired Singletons against O'Sheas with Singletons coming out on top 11-3. A true team effort kept Singletons ahead from start to finish, with sharp defense, including 3 DPs, and timely hitting when it counted most. Multiple hit games were had by Paul Canalattos, Dennis Passaretti, Steve Buchter, Frank Gordon and a huge 3 run homer by Bob Davis. Also, hats off to Frank Gordon who pitched a magnificent game in holding O'Sheas to only 3 runs. In the late game, Barco won their 6th in a row, edging out Darien 11-5. Leading Darien was Jerry Mazza (3-4) and Tom "T" Ball (2 hits) as their record fell to 3-5. For Barco, offensive leaders were Terry McPartland (2 hits,4 RBIs), and Steve Jacobson, Kevin Maloney, Steve Schwind, Bill Stack, each 3-4. Terry McPartland again sparkled in the field for Barco, giving pitcher Gary Jambor terrific defensive support, who also gets backing from his daughter Sara via good luck kisses. PS Laura ... the old man (GJ), who you made fun of for "sucking wind," is going to beat you, he's not so slow.
On a sad note for the league, Marion Supa, the wife of John Supa and the sister of Dom Bello, passed away this past week after a yearlong battle with cancer. Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire family.

On July 1, the Farmingdale Over The Hill Gang faced two All-Star teams from the Oceanside POPS (Past Our Prime) Softball League. In the opener, the OTH National League came up with a 10 run first inning giving manager Tom Bailey a nice cushion, which proved to tough to overcome in their 19-11 victory. The offensive stars were Mike Kochen who was 4-4, Tom "T-Ball" and Chris Theohrides, both going 4-5. Also coming up big were Mike Muscar and Bill Wahl who added 3 hits apiece, which gave pitcher Jay Donovan ample run support. In the nightcap, Rich Branaccio, who stepped in at the last minute, managed the American League All-Stars to victory. To fill out the roster, Rich insightfully added Benny Alberto, John Gannon and Dave Ringer, all who had key contributions. The fireworks started early in this game as well, this time it was the Oceanside POPs banging out 10 runs in the top of the first. Undaunted, the OTH Gang remained calm and confidant, they came roaring back to tie the game at 11 all in the third. After that point it was all Farmingdale. With terrific infield defense including spectacular, rally killing DPs, relentless hitting and Gary Jambor's superb pitching, the American League boys won by the score of 22-13. Defensive stars were infielders Larry Lembo, George Cohan, Steve Jacobson and Benny Alberto. The hitting heroes were Tommy Sorrentino with 2 HRs & 6 RBIs, Bob Davis and Jerry Nardone with 4 RBIs, and with 3 hits each was George Cohan, Nat Corrao and Steve Jacobson. Also contributing were Larry Lembo and John Gannon with 2 keys hits apiece. Thanks to all the All-Stars, League President Jim Reilly, managers Tom Bailey and Rich Branaccio for all your time and efforts in making 2003 a winning success.
