Shane, who served as a priest for almost 50 years in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre, died on May 13, 2003 at St. Pius Residence in Uniondale. He was 74 years old. A native of LI, Father Shane was born on Nov. 4, 1928, one of six children of the late William R. and Leah Dowden Shane. He served as an associate pastor in 1956 at St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage where he was remembered for directing the Altar Boy Society. His sister Helen was the organist. In 1975, Father Shane became pastor of St. Kilian Church. As St. Kilian's sixth pastor, he oversaw changes introduced by the Second Vatican Council. He established a Parish Council, an elected school board and oversaw the increasing involvement of lay people in the Mass in his 11 years there. He retired to St. Pius X residence in 1999. He is survived by his sisters, Helen Mochwart and Barbara Schwoerer; his brother Robert and many nieces and nephews. A Vigil Mass was celebrated by Monsignor John McCann on May 15 and a Funeral Mass was held on May 16 a the Church of St. Mary in Manhasset. Burial Holy Rood Cemetery.
