New York Order Sons of Italy in America (NYSOSIA) President Joseph J. DiTrapani, in conjunction with the New York State Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc., announced their sponsorship of the Sixth Annual "Walk for Education" which is scheduled to take place on May 3 at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, Parking Field 5 in the Cherry Picnic area. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will step off at 10 a.m. for the three-mile route.
All proceeds from the Sixth Annual "Walk for Education" will be used to subsidize the Sons of Italy scholarship program. Each year at their state convention, they present 12 statewide awards, four statewide graduate awards, 94 district awards and three grants. They also present monetary awards to adults returning to college.
According to Nancy DiFiore-Quinn, state fund-raising chairperson and state second vice president, the Annual Scholarship Ceremonies will be held on June 7 at the Nevele Grande Resort and Country Club, Ellenville, NY.
"Walk for Education" chairperson Marianne Principe O'Neil urges all to join in the fun at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on May 3. Whether you are a leisure stroller, exercise pacer or race walker, you can participate with others and enjoy the beautiful and varied three-mile route, keep fit and help raise funds for educational endeavors. You are invited to join in the fun whether or not you can participate in the actual walk. Your help in getting sponsors to support the Walk-A-Thon is greatly appreciated, There are picnic facilities available at the walk site . The event will be held rain or shine.
Refreshments will be served before and after the walk. Entertainment will be provided. If you can't walk, but wish to make a donation, just come down at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 and join in the fun and activities.
