The Friends of Long Island Wrestling, the local representative to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, OK recently announced that Farmingdale resident Irv Apgar is one of three Long Island residents to be joining a number of elite wrestling coaches who have been recognized by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for outstanding accomplishments in serving the youth of Long Island.

Apgar became the wrestling coach at Farmingdale High School in 1965. His first team went undefeated and won the North Shore Championship. During his tenure, Apgar produced 31 Nassau County champions and his team won the Nassau County Championship in 1972. This was the first North Shore team to ever accomplish this feat. Apgar was selected Nassau County Coach of the Year in 1970.

Coach Apgar will be recognized permanently in the Hall of Fame. The induction dinner will take place at the Huntington Hilton Banquet Hall on April 25. Those who are interested in attending may call the Friends of LI Wrestling at 799-3554.
