The Columbus Lodge #2143 is currently accepting resumes for their 25th annual scholarship program for graduating seniors with a 75 percent or above average grade and who attend Farmingdale, Massapequa, Bethpage or Plainedge High School. The lodge will give out $500 scholarships to eight lucky students (two from each high school).
Students can pick up an application at their guidance counselor's office in their school and students do not have to be of Italian decent to submit an application. The deadline for submitting applications is May 1, no exceptions allowed. Those who do not submit an application cannot be considered. For additional information, contact Scholarship Chairman Ed Bochynski Sr. at 694-5490.
The funding for the scholarships come from the volunteer work of the Columbus Lodge Scholarship Journal Committee, this year chaired by No. Massapequa's Pete Gisonda and Massapequa's Al Paresi. The theme to this year's journal was a remembrance of the local neighbors who died on September 11. While this year's journal has been completed, local merchants, members of the lodge, friends and family will have the opportunity to participate by sponsoring a gold page, a full page, half page or quarter page in next year's journal. For more information, contact Pete Gisonda at 798-3972.
